My reading tastes

My tastes in books hasn't changed. The book still has to have a good plot; well thought out three dimensional characters; and the book has a good clear point. I do read a lot of fantasy scifi supernatural kind of stories but if there isn't a plot the book gets thrown into the mind dump pile.

what books I've enjoyed the most in Novel

In my lit circles, I read The DaVinci Code and The Catcher in the Rye and as a class we read The Lovely Bones. Out of the three I liked The DaVinci Code the best. I didn't understand The Catcher in the Rye. The boy just leaves school after flunking out and it's his trip in New York after he leaves the private school. I don't understand why the author wrote it. There has to be a point, I just can't see it. I absolutely detested The Lovely Bones. I forced my way through it. I only finished it to know the ending before we finished the movie. It's not a book I'd have picked up on my own. I wouldn't recommend it either.

My Kinda Reads

I enjoyed to read darker things. I was into Stephen King and Anne Rice for a while. Reading about evil cell phones and a suicidal vampire was really interesting. Then I moved on to mushy gushy teenage love stories. After a while those became really repetitive. The plot and story lines were all the same. The names and situations varied but always the same story line. Girl has a crush, best friend likes said girl, girl gets crush, fights with best friend  girl realizes crush isn't worth it; finally girl gets with best friend  All the books were similar and they got old after a while. Then the Twilight phase hit, before it came out in theaters. Few girls have gone without reading that over trended saga. I don't see the big deal, but that may just be because of how up played it is at this point. Ever since then I've been stuck in the fantasy scifi world of literature. In Novel we didn't read too much of these but I did for my independent reads.

As a reader..

As time went on...

I had less and less time to read. I wanted to, but I just didn't have the time. I'd read morning, noon, and night. My dad would have to all but drag me out of my room. I was the kid who'd have the stack of books covering her face as she left the library. This class gave me that time back. It gave me an excuse to go to the book store. I was reading more than I had in the longest time.

Before class

I was an avid reader who'd just lost the time to do so with work and school and home life stressing me out more than ever reading became a minute part in my life. Reading was my way to escape reality and get in someone else's mind for a while. I lost that opportunity and this class game me the chance to pick up where I'd left off.
